WE had a busy Thursday. As a result, the day flew by. We are really looking to increase students' vocabulary. Ask them about two new words we are learning to incorporate into our day. The students have worked hard on preparing for their first research day which will be Tuesday.

Tomorrow is the last day to send in coins for the Heroes for Harvey fundraiser. The students have done a nice job so far!

Three in a row! I hope this will help to motivate me to stay in touch. Students began to think about their research topics in science. They got together with partners to begin to generate some questions to research and possible sources of information. We will continue that work tomorrow.

In math today, we began math workshop. Once we as a class are able to make smoother transitions, this model will work well. We are beginning our study of movement across the place value chart as a result of multiplication and division.

Please check in on your child's homework. I am assigning regular spell and math often. A few students are not bringing in completed assignments on time. I appreciate anything you can do to help keep the students organized.

I am on a roll! I have remembered to update two days in a row. Things are proceeding well. We will be starting in EDM this week. We will be starting with Unit 2 which covers place value and multiplication and division skills.

In writing today, the students are drafting a comic strip to practice grammar skills covered to date. The focus is sentences, nouns, and adjectives. This should be fun!

Tomorrow in Science the students will be picking a topic for their project. They will be investigating human impact on the environment and ways to lessen that impact.

Day three is done. We have had a great beginning to the school year. Today we set some goals for the year. We also are really into the first book in our reading unit. Ask your child about Out of My Mind.

There are some permissions that have gone home for Drama Club and Cross Country team that need to be returned quickly. By the way, you helped us reach our goal of having all of the paperwork in today. Thank you! Now I have to buy popsicles for tomorrow.

Next Tuesday, the students will have an opportunity to start a musical instrument if they are interested. Information will be coming home about that.

Day One of school is in the books! It virtually flew by for all of us. I am very excited to see the wonderful things these children are capable of. We have started working on building a community of learners.

Thank you to the many families that sent in tissues and wipes. This will be a good start. Keep your eyes here to see when the next frantic appeal arrives. One other thing that I failed to mention is that the students may want to bring their own earbuds to school. They will be necessary at math time as well as other random times during the week. They will be used with computers.

I have challenged my students to have their parents complete the parent homework by Wednesday. Please help them reach our goals.

Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year

Hello Parents and Students,

This page is where you will find information related to happenings at school and in our class. Summer is coming to an end, and I am back in school trying to get things ready for August 28th.
I hope everyone has had some fun this summer, and that you are all excited to start fifth grade!

I sent a list of helpful supplies with your summer letter. If you did not receive it, or have misplaced it click here. Supply List

I know that specials may influence how you dress, so I will let you know that we have art on Mondays, music on Wednesdays, library on Fridays, and phys. ed. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I will give you a more specific schedule when I see you on Monday.

Just a heads up, Grade 5 lunch is at 12:45, so a snack is suggested to help you stay energized. We generally eat our snacks after AM recess around 10:35.

Enjoy your last few days of summer. I look forward to meeting you all soon.
